Dear Reader,
Whether you're a new writer or an experienced one, the editors at Trips and Journeys are happy to work with you if you can deliver what they're looking for. You'll find this online seasonal magazine at www.tripsandjourneys.com.
Published four times a year, it is over 90% freelance written and includes informative travel articles on the U.S. and Canada. Rather than long tales of your personal adventures, the editors prefer relatively short, descriptive, structured narratives.
Each issue includes 4 Features, 5 Departments, and 2 Columns. Features are titled Best, New, Next, and Classic and usually run between 500 and 800 words each. Departments include Right, More, Special, Outdoor, and Extra.
Right is a photo feature of 200 to 400 words with an emphasis on destination contact information. More is intended to "buddy" an article in the same issue and runs about 200 to 500 words. Special, Outdoor, and Extra are flexible in length. The Smart column runs 200 to 800 words and covers topics of technology, business travel, packing tips, new products or money saving ideas. Their Elsewhere column always details a museum and is usually around 400 words.
This upbeat publication likes articles to be accompanied by at least 2 original photos and/or artwork. In fact, your article is more likely to be accepted if you can offer photos to illustrate it.
Query on line first at info@tripsandjourneys.com. The editors will request a manuscript and photos upon acceptance. This publication is quick to respond to your queries -- almost always within 2 weeks. The pay for feature length articles is $20, $15 for shorter ones and $10 for Smart and More, if unaccompanied by photos. Since they buy nonexclusive electronic rights, you can market your articles to other publications as well.

Fact: Top Magazines and Newspapers Will Pay Cash for Your Vacation Snapshots
This might surprise you, but even if the only photo equipment you have is a point-and-shoot digital camera, you can take pictures that look good enough to appear in a magazine...
Join us in San Francisco for four days of fun and expert instruction. You'll walk away with photos so incredible, they could wind up on the pages of top travel publications or newspapers.
For details, visit: http://www.thephotographerslife.com/sanfrancisco or call (866)415-1425 or local at (831)274-2779. Spaces are limited. Reserve your seat before July 25, 2006 and SAVE $300.
1.) Look at the editorial calendar and time your article accordingly. If, for example, you have an article about Christmas Markets in Vienna, then query early enough for it to run in the winter edition.
2.) Always take photos to go with your article.
3.) Increase your income by turning one trip into two...remember Trips and Journeys likes to buddy their "More" department with a feature article. (See the resource section below for more details on this technique.)
