By Leigh Fergus, in Paris, France

As editor of The European I'm looking for short, snappy, focused
articles of no more than 350-600 words on one particular aspect of
European living.

While I accept travel articles, I tend to give preference to pieces
that deal with concrete and practical issues of living and doing
business in Europe, such as:

** real estate in a specific town or small region
** the process of buying or renovating property in a specific European
country
** renting property
** the cost of living
** registering a car

Examples of possible topics that would catch my eye are:

** The Five Best Fish Restaurants in Nice
** Ten Golden Rules for Renting Out Your Property in Greece
** How to Make Your Money Go Further in Rome
** Where to Find the Best Plumber/Electrician/Builder in southern
Spain
** Mother's Little Helpers in Munich (support groups etc.)

I also give preference to articles covering these aspects in
off-the-beaten track areas in Europe. As editor I have no need of any

more about skiing options in Bulgaria, etc.

Russia can be included in the editorial view of "Europe," which is not

add sidebars of contact details/ addresses/ useful facts and figures
-- these need not be included in the word count but should not be
longer than the article.

One or two well-chosen color photos with captions, in jpeg format, are
also welcome and full acknowledgement will be given for any photos
used.

The European works on spec, and publication depends on editorial
approval. Send your submissions in a Word document via e-mail. If I
accept an article, you get a by-line and a fee of $50 will be paid the
month after publication.

Writers should contact me, Leigh Fergus, directly by email at
lfergus@internationalliving.com for a copy of our style sheet and
guidelines.

[EDITOR'S NOTE: Jen Stevens talks about these "postcard" pieces in her
Ultimate Travel Writer's Program. She shows you exactly how to define
them, write them, and pitch them to editors.

If you don't yet have a copy, you can get one here and beat the
price-hike too: http://www.thetravelwriterslife.com/sh/savenow ]
