AN IDEAL (PAYING) OUTLET FOR YOUR BEACH ARTICLES
By Roberta Beach Jacobson, in Karpathos, Greece
Pat and Jerry Henderson started BeachesBeaches.com in 1995. Back then, they concentrated on their home state of California, researching the coastline and reporting on beach hotels that really were on the beach and not blocks away.
Their labor-of-love has evolved and grown over the years, and these days Pat handles the advertising and husband Jerry handles the editorial -- writing articles and sifting through those submitted by freelancers.
The site contains considerably more ads for beach resorts than it used to, and the scope of the coverage has expanded beyond California. These days, any beach is fair game -- no matter where in the world it's located. You'll find information on the east coast, west coast, Caribbean, Hawaii, and beyond.
And -- good news -- they pay for contributions.
Do you have a beach story to tell? Jerry is looking for first-person accounts that run 1000 - 1800 words. Your focus must be on a specific beach...

experience and the tone should be light and fun. Articles stay live for a month and are then archived. You can submit your articles here: beachwizard@beachesbeaches.com
The Hendersons haven't posted Writer's Guidelines for BeachesBeaches.com, however you'll find some guidance about their preferences here: http://beachesbeaches.com/wizard.html
A quick word of advice about the technical aspect of submitting copy: When you send an article to BeachesBeaches.com save it, first, as a "txt" file or as a "pdf" file. I recently sent Jerry an article saved as a "doc" file, and he couldn't open it (he works in Mac, which may have found my file incompatible). In any event, to ensure your story goes through without incident, I suggest you save it as text.
The pay for articles is $50 and you have the option of receiving the money via check or through Paypal. For any contributor based outside the United States, Paypay is a convenient option. I submitted an article plus a photo a couple of weeks back, and I've been paid already -- though Jerry tells me it takes a few weeks to get the material online. (Check back soon to read my article on Karpathos, the Greek island I call home.)

The World and Your Hometown are Jam-Packed with Opportunities to Profit from Your Photographs
Photo opportunities exist everywhere. On the roadside... at work...while talking with friends... in your backyard... a nearby zoo... special events... festivals... sporting events... pie-eating contests... and more...
Just take a look around you -- at magazines, newspapers, books, trade journals, technical manuals, and almost any published material. Look at the cover and flip through the pages. What do you see? Photographs.
Someone has to take those pictures. Why not you?
