August 31, 2008 - "Olympic Fuel" Tip #14
*********************

Dear Reader, since our next live workshop is in Shanghai, China in October, today's Olympic Fuel tip is about dim sum...

In Cantonese, dim sum literally means "heart's delight."  Dim sum is a variety of Chinese snacks like steamed pork buns, dumplings, shrimp balls, noodles, and more which come in small portions and may include meat, noodles, vegetables, as well as desserts.

Here in The States, Chinese dim sum is usually served in the morning before noon or at specialty dim sum restaurants all day.  There are two types of restaurants that serve it:

** 1. Restaurants that offer dishes a la carte -- FUN
** 2. Restaurants with servers who walk the aisles pushing carts of steaming dim sum, stopping at every table to peddle their wares -- MORE FUN

But the very best dim sum is still in China, where each region has a different specialty.  In Shanghai, for example, the soup dumpling -- served steaming in bamboo baskets, each dumpling filled with a delicious savory soup -- is the most popular item on the dim sum menu.  Crowds of people line up at the world-renowned Nanxiang Mantou Dian restaurant to slurp up the piping hot dumplings, where you can get 16 for a buck.

We've still got two seats left on our upcoming photography workshop in Shanghai this October.  We've changed the schedule around so anyone that takes those last two seats must also agree to take the additional side trip to Xi'an and Beijing in addition to the workshop in Shanghai.  Changes in the schedule allowed us to remove a day from the Shanghai workshop and add a day on to Beijing.  You'll find prices and more details here: http://www.thephotographerslife.com/shanghai but if you're interested, you should call Helen Buttery at 1-866-415-1425 to discuss the changes in the schedule.
