Dear Reader,
I’m thinking a lot about family lately since I’m nine months pregnant and expecting a new baby girl any day now. (Note: If you missed yesterday’s baby girl-inspired Photo Challenge Theme, “Tickled Pink,” you’ll find the details here.)
So this week’s Featured Publication is about family, too. Published stories in the May print edition of the magazine earn $100. But every story submission earns a gift for your child, just for submitting.

A NO-PRESSURE STARTING POINT FOR BUDDING JOURNALISTS
By Janette Jones in Cambridge, Maryland
Holidays with Kids is Australia's leading family travel and lifestyle magazine and website. Profiling resorts and activities in Australia and other destinations such as Fiji, Brunei, Thailand, Canada, and the U.S., it’s all about fun for kids and relaxation for parents.
The Holidays with Kids website is animated and welcoming. You can read a free online version of the magazine there, by clicking on “Home/Read magazine online.”
The editors are looking for short stories (maximum 300 words) related to family travel. They’ve come up with an unusual way to reimburse writers: every submission is rewarded with a gift for your child. On top of that, the four best submissions of the year will be published in the May print issue of the magazine, and those writers will each receive $100. Other stories may be published on the website throughout the year, as well.
If you’re just getting started in travel writing, getting published on the Holidays with Kids website or in the online magazine is worth far more than the gift for your child or the $100. It’s an impressive site. Both the website and magazine are interactive, professionally presented and contain a wealth of information on the subject of family travel. So getting published here would make a very nice clip to show off.
Don’t forget to first read the writer’s guidelines.
Photographs to compliment your stories are welcome. They can be of the destination you visited, the locals, and even of your family, and should be colorful, action-oriented, and people-oriented (including people with animals). Up to five images at 72dpi will be accepted.
To contact the editor, send an e-mail with your story to admin@signaturemedia.com.au.
[Ed. Note: Remember – the $100 discount on our 2009 Ultimate Travel Writer’s Workshop-At-Home Package ends this Sunday, August 30 at midnight.]
