I might be jumping to conclusions but I just received a bunch of photos from Bonnie who tells me that our photo expedition in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Thailand is going really well. And, I’m afraid professional photographer Rich Wagner is eating bugs.
Again, I’m likely jumping to conclusions. But he sure is approaching that bamboo stick full of pink mush as if he’s intimidated. And everyone’s taking pictures of him doing it, so I’m left to assume it’s not candy or something uneventful.
I’m including pictures below, and you be the judge.
If you actually know what it is (or you have a better guess), leave a comment on our website because I’d love to know and I’m not going to hear from Bonnie and Rich again until Monday.
You’ll find pictures from their trip, below:

Rich is sampling sticky rice with beans cooked over charcoal in bamboo & it is delicious. There are plenty of opportunities to eat crispy bugs, another staple food more popular with upcountry Isan Thais & found on carts on many streets in Bangkok. More photographed than eaten by tourists!
Lliving here I have eaten many different food combinations over the years & still enjoy
new palate pleasures.. Feel free to contact me if you are coming to Thailand..
They are eating Rice cooked in Bamboo, not bugs.
I believe Rich is actually just eating roasted sticky rice -- a length of bamboo is filled with rice and water and then roasted in (or leaning up against) a natural wood fire... It comes out tasting rather sweet, with a touch of smokiness to it. But if the rice were contaminated by any little bugs, then he may indeed have gotten some extra protein! Of greater concern is that Rich is flashing a rather large wad of cash in front of the street vendors... Keep it in your pants, Rich!
i am really interested in your information regarding the Lazy Photographer. How can I do what you do? What do you need from me to qualify for traveling and taking photos? I have been taking pictures for many years. I like taking nature photos and candids, scenes, all types of photography. How do I become a professional traveling photographer? Appreciate your comments. Thanks. Denny
I have a couple pix of grubs and scorpions on the Thai bug carts. How do I send them to you?
