| Front Desk Supervisor |

| What are you studying at AWAI (travel writing,
photography, import/export, or all three)? |
| travel writing, photography |
| |
| What was your first successful article or photo about
and where did it appear? |
| An article about a local musician in a newsletter/magazine called "Music for the Love of It." I interviewed the musician through an interpreter, enjoyed dinner at a well-known local restaurant, and was paid $50! |

| What are you working on now? |
| My goal now is to send at least one query a week (usually multiple submissions) and see what else bites. |
| |
| What has been your proudest writing, photography, or
import/export moment? |
| Having a two-page color spread about Iceland in The Stars and Stripes, a newspaper distributed to all US military bases in Europe. Many of the people I work with noticed my work and visited my website for the first time. |
| |
| Please give us an example of how your life has
changed since becoming a travel writer, photographer, or
import-exporter. |
| I am just plain having a lot of fun. It's a great way to support my traveling habit and keeps me focused and working hard in my spare time (better than just sitting around watching TV!) My friends and family are really seeing my talent and my devotion to it. |
| |
| What success tip would you like to share with your
fellow AWAI members? |
| Just keep at it. I've had a few rejections and quite a few that just don't respond, but I don't give up. I just keep on sending queries and I know that someone will notice and want my work. |
| |
| When did you realize you were living the writer’s or
photographer’s life? |
| When I sat in my hotel room in Berchtesgaden, Germany furiously typing away at my laptop watching European MTV after a great meal--and then sold that article twice. |
