Age: 40

What is your current occupation?
Travel Writer, Publicist, Copywriter

What are you studying at AWAI (travel writing, photography, import/export, or all three)?
Travel Writing, completed in 2006

What was your first successful article or photo about and where did it appear?
That's a hard question to answer. I had several articles and photos published almost simultaneously. If you google "Connie Werner Reichert" many of them will pop up. You can also go to www.authorsden.com/conniewreichert. For example, one of my first articles appeared online at Waikikinews.com, "Paradise Found: 15 Fun Things to do in Oahu."

What are you working on now?
I recently returned from an exciting press trip to Paris and Tuscany (Lucca), so I am crafting that journey right now.

What has been your proudest writing, photography, or import/export moment?
There are so many. I went on 10 press trips in less than two years. It was crazy, but I loved it and felt very fortunate to get on the fast track thanks to all I have learned through your program. I have been a published writer for more than 20 years, and travel writing was a welcome change. Perhaps, the proudest moment was when I found myself on a press trip to the Yukon, on a snowmobile, riding the wind and up through the mountainous terrain at 30 mph and 30 degrees below zero, with the spectacular valley beneath me.

Please give us an example of how your life has changed since becoming a travel writer, photographer, or import-exporter.
Such lovely changes! I have so many new memories, and that is what means the most to me---the memories. I have been able to go to places I have only dreamed of. I have been able to write about these places and share them with so many others around the globe, in magazines and online. I feel glamorous, free and unstoppable. I am living my dream!

What success tip would you like to share with your fellow AWAI members?
Get into the AWAI program with a vengeance. It will get you going as a travel writer very quickly if you follow my advice and theirs. Be completely devoted and serious about what you do. When you submit your stories, they must be impeccable, NO mistakes in any way. Your photos must be spectacular in clarity and in uniqueness.

When did you realize you were living the writer’s or photographer’s life?
When the offers of press trips came pouring in and I had to turn so many down, due to lack of time and other travel article deadlines. That's okay, though. They trips I did go on, were the ones I truly wanted to be a part of and share with the world.
